Simple DirectMedia Layer (SDL) supports Linux, Windows, BeOS, MacOS Classic, MacOS X, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, BSD/OS, Solaris, IRIX, and QNX. There is also code, but no official support, for Windows CE, AmigaOS, Dreamcast, Atari, NetBSD, AIX, OSF/Tru64, and SymbianOS.

US-based Endeavor Technical Services Inc, a software and consulting firm, had tied up with Canadian-based QNX Software Systems Ltd (QSS), maker of the QNX Neutrino real-time operating systems (RTOS). A press release said both the companies have finalised a distribution and training programme. With this tie-up, ETS has procured exclusive marketing and training rights of the latter's products-QNX Neutrino in India, the release added.

PC Magazine today has an article about future computing devices in automobiles: Windows CE (now called Windows Automotive) lost out to QNX Neutrino, a real-time operating system from a company with two decades of experience in life-support systems and nuclear power plants--and few plans to run Audi's life in the future. With Microsoft, confided one Audi manager, "You were always thinking they had plans to control more than your dashboard." (Microsoft automotive business unit general manager Bob McKenzie says that Microsoft would like to partner with automakers on more extensive projects in the future.)

The server for irc.qnxzone.com that was operated by astra network was shutdown when they moved locations. To make the transition smooth, the DNS for irc.qnxzone.com was changed to point to irc.joher.com. Until the irc.qnxzone.com is back online, there is only one server, which is irc.joher.com, and it has been offline for unknown reasons since yesterday. We, at OpenQNX just setup a temperary irc server: irc.openqnx.com to fill the gap. It will be online serving the QNX community until the normal IRC servers are back.

SDTimes talks about the latest QNX Momentics Pro. Unlike power management schemes used in other embedded systems, which place power management control with the operating system, QNX's method, according to the company, puts control policies with the applications, giving developers more control over the power consumption of individual system components.

Due to an announced CERT security vulnerability with sendmail, we recently ported the latest version of sendmail (8.12.9) to QNX 4 using the TCP/IP 5.0 libraries. Now we are willing to provide the compiled files to other QNX 4 users, but no warranty comes with these files. :)

The BCM5673 is a dual-port switch equipped with a 10 Gigabit Ethernet and proprietary HiGig uplink ports. The former is a Xaui-based interconnect that complies with IEEE's CX-4 interface standard, thus allowing the new switching device to link up with Xenpak, X2, XFP and XPAK modules. The HiGig port is a proprietary Xaui-based interface that allows designers to link up with devices like the BCM5670 switch fabric device.

Developed in a 0.13-micron process, the BCM5673 operates from a 1.25-V core voltage and delivers 2.5- and 3.3-V tolerant I/Os. During normal operation, Broadcom said the chip dissipates approximately 4-W power. The BCM5673 is being offered a 480-pin FBGA package and is equipped with native support for the Linux, VxWorks and QNX operating systems. The device also delivers the same API as other members of the StrataXGX family, thus allowing designers to port existing software.
