LAS VEGAS, 2005 Consumer Electronics Show, January 6, 2005 - QNX Software Systems today announced that JVC, a world leader in audio and video consumer products, has chosen the QNX® Neutrino® realtime operating system (RTOS) to power a new DVD receiver and monitor for in-car use.The latest infotainment device from JVC for the automotive aftermarket, the receiver offers "dual zone" capability for front and back seat simultaneous operation, a detachable monitor, and a 5.1 channel audio system. To give the unit its high reliability and automotive-grade performance, JVC took advantage of many QNX software innovations, including a highly modular embedded windowing system, a code-generating application builder, easy-to-customize user-interface controls, and advanced multi-language support.

"Together, JVC and QNX are building next-generation in-car infotainment products that give consumers added flexibility to improve the driving experience," according to Nobuo Maeda, general manager, mobile entertainment, AV & Multimedia Company, Victor Company of Japan, Limited. "Infotainment systems being built today need to be reliable and extremely flexible in architecture. Only QNX delivers the very highest levels of flexibility and reliability in a realtime operating system, enabling the production of future-ready applications demanded by the automotive market."

Rapid Application Development for JVC Engineers
The QNX Momentics® application builder enabled JVC developers to reduce time-consuming programming tasks, allowing them to focus on quality design instead. For instance, the application builder lets developers create complete, full-featured user interfaces - without having to write a line of code. It also features a rich palette of easy-to-customize user controls and a language editor that lets a single application binary support multiple international languages.

Other QNX features that reduced JVC's development time included high-speed message passing, which made it easy to synchronize the device's multiple software programs, and full POSIX support, which allowed engineers with Unix/Linux experience to become productive almost immediately.

"JVC is one of the world's leading developers of audio and video products for consumers and QNX is thrilled to be chosen to power the company's new DVD receiver and monitor," said Dan Dodge, chief executive officer of QNX Software Systems. "The telematics industry is poised for record growth in 2005, and QNX will help leading-edge companies like JVC drive the market forward with products that are both flexible and highly reliable."

Availability
The new DVD receiver and monitor is shipping today in Europe (Model KD-AV 7001), Asia (Model KD-AV 7005), and Japan (Model KD-PAV 7000), and is expected to be available in the United States (Model KD-AV 7010) in early 2005.
