SANTA CLARA, CALIF., EclipseCon 2006, March 20, 2006 - QNX Software Systems, founding member of the Eclipse Foundation, will lead two in-depth sessions at the third annual EclipseCon user conference at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, Calif. This year's show is the largest gathering of the Eclipse community to date, and it will feature over 140 technical sessions for everyone from beginners through advanced users, developers of Eclipse-based applications, enterprise architects, and other technology decision makers.
For novices, Bill Graham, product line manager for QNX Software Systems, will present an introductory tutorial to the C/C++ Development Tools (CDT) for Eclipse on Monday, March 20, at 8:30 a.m. The three and a half hour session will include an introduction to the Eclipse CDT project structure, how contributions are made, how to get involved, and how plans, roadmaps, and schedules are communicated to the user community. Practical training such as code importation, standard and managed make projects, and productivity features of the CDT such as content assist and refactoring will also be discussed in detail.
Bill Graham has more than 17 years of experience in the software industry, including embedded and real-time systems development, UML modeling, and object-oriented design. Prior to QNX, Graham held positions in product management and marketing, consulting and software development at IBM, Rational, Klocwork, and ObjecTime.
For those familiar with the CDT project, Doug Schaefer, Eclipse CDT project lead and senior software architect at QNX Software Systems, will present "Using the CDT on Large Legacy Projects" on Wednesday, March 22 at 9:30 a.m. Based on real-life examples, this session will walk participants through some of the challenges that developers face when applying the CDT to large open source projects and will provide tips on how to overcome these challenges.
Doug Schaefer brings more than 15 years of software development and architecture experience to QNX. Schaefer has been contributing to Eclipse since 2002, when he managed the IBM Rational team responsible for code generation and debugger integrations for the Rose RealTime and XDE UML modeling products. In his work at IBM, he was also the development lead and architect for the company's contribution to the Eclipse CDT project.
