Nuremberg, Germany, October 4, 2005 - With the QNX® Neutrino® RTOS available for its Freescale PowerQUICC™ III board family, MEN can now offer BSP support for another high-performance and reliable realtime operating system in the industrial embedded market. MEN's PowerQUICC™ III family comprises five different single-board computers and is based on 6U VME, 3U, and 6U CompactPCI and System-On-Module (ESM™) platforms. The board portfolio has been designed for multiple high-performance communication needs and is especially suited for rugged environments. All PowerQUICC III solutions feature on-board FPGAs for application-specific I/O extensions.
"MEN appreciates the QNX Neutrino RTOS as an extremely fail-safe operating system that supports both Pentium and PowerPC platforms, and thus makes a perfect fit with MEN's product strategy and target markets," says Barbara Schmitz, marketing director at MEN Mikro Elektronik.
A true microkernel operating system, the QNX Neutrino RTOS offers advanced memory protection, distributed processing, symmetric multiprocessing, POSIX APIs, a dynamically upgradeable architecture, and industry-leading realtime performance.
"For over twenty-five years, developers of industrial control and process automation systems have been choosing QNX technology for its true realtime performance, exceptional fault tolerance, and rich support for off-the-shelf platforms such as MEN's PowerQUICC family of single-board computers," said Linda Campbell, director of strategic alliances at QNX Software Systems. "By taking advantage of this new BSP support, system developers can now combine the world's most advanced RTOS with rugged, high-performance hardware platforms that have been proven in demanding industrial environments."
Meet with MEN Mikro Elektronik and QNX Software Systems at the Freescale Technology Forum (FTF) in Munich, Oct. 18-19, 2005. (For more information and online registration visit: www.freescale.com/FTF).
