As part of the agreement, the two companies have already ported Data Connection's entire suite of networking protocols to QNX's flagship product, the QNX(R) Neutrino(R) realtime operating system (RTOS). The offering includes support for IP routing such as DC-OSPF, DC-ISIS, DC-RIP, and DC-BGP, as well as multicast, VoIP, MPLS, VPNs, GMPLS, and ATM.

In addition, the companies have created a "Router-in-a-Box" CD that lets customers quickly evaluate the rich capabilities of the joint solution. The CD showcases Data Connection's routing and VPN technologies, with full integration of the QNX Neutrino RTOS. The management interface layer is provided by Silicon & Software Systems' (S3) embeddedMIND multi-protocol agent platform, which is pre-integrated to provide a complete solution.

Both the QNX Neutrino RTOS and the Data Connection protocol stacks have been engineered for scalability and high availability, allowing customers to build distributed, self-healing systems that offer a high degree of fault tolerance and software upgradeability.

"Like QNX, Data Connection has been building high-quality products for well over two decades, providing customers the assurance that they are leveraging both proven technology and a solid, customer-driven technology supplier," said Phil McConnell, CEO of Data Connection. "Now, through this agreement, our two companies are not only delivering an integrated software platform, but are using the relationships we have built throughout our respective sales and service organizations to provide customers with unified solutions on demand."

The offering from Data Connection complements QNX's existing suite of pre-integrated protocol stacks, which includes IPv4 and IPv6, as well as IPsec, IKE, NAT, IP filtering, and a number of other protocols.

"Data Connection and QNX are committed to providing networking OEMs with best-in-class, out-of-the-box solutions that reduce risk and time-to-market," said Romain Saha, networking segment manager, QNX Software Systems. "With clients such as Cisco, IBM, and Lucent, our companies have the experience and breadth of protocol support to help developers reduce integration efforts, increase reliability, and bring more focus to bear on product differentiation."
