QNX® Momentics® v6.3 Released!

Submitted by cdm on

QNX Software Systems has just released QNX® Momentics® development suite v6.3. In the coming weeks, there will be a 30-day QNX Momentics Professional Edition evaluation available for immediate download. New to the program, you will be able to select the host version of your choice: Windows, Linux, Solaris, or the QNX Neutrino RTOS x86. It will give you the opportunity to explore our latest commercial offerings for a full 30-days. Please stay tuned for further details! What does this mean for current NC users? It means when you download 6.3.0 you start with the full commercial product, allowing you to fully customize your environment for 30 days. After that, the "pro" bits of the install become disabled and you now have everything you had under NC, but with Eclipse pre-installed. So although there is no longer a separate NC download, it continues to live on!

Feel free to ask any questions you have on the forums on this site and we will do our best to answer them.

Here is the official press release from QSS:

OTTAWA, June 3, 2004 - QNX Software Systems today announced general availability of version 6.3 of its QNX® Momentics® development suite, the highly integrated platform for building applications based on the QNX Neutrino® RTOS.

With QNX Momentics v6.3, QNX introduces a host of tools and capabilities for developers in the automotive, networking, medical, military, and general embedded markets. The new features include direct support for accelerated 3D multi-layer graphics, a scalable HTML 4 Web browser, a fault-resilient flash file system, networking features such as SCTP and IP Filtering, an integrated code coverage tool, a BSP import wizard for automating board bring-up, and support for Linux development hosts.

New Features at a Glance

Advanced 3D graphics - With v6.3, QNX becomes the first RTOS vendor to offer native support for accelerated 3D graphics and multi-layer user interfaces. V6.3 also introduces direct support for multi-headed displays: A single head unit running the QNX Neutrino RTOS can now support multiple monitors, with each monitor displaying a different view.

Scalable embedded browser - Highly modular and memory efficient, the new QNX VoyagerTM 2 Web browser supports ultra-small displays, enterprise-grade security through SSL 3.0, and Internet standards such as HTML 4.01, XHTML 1.1, WAP 2.0, WML 1.3, and CSS. The browser can dynamically resize web pages to fit on small screens, eliminating the need to create custom mobile content.

Networking features - To help eliminate traffic bottlenecks and improve uptime in networking elements, v6.3 introduces support for SCTP (stream control transmission protocol) and IP Filtering with NAT (network address translation). These new features complement QNX's already rich support for IPv4, IPv6, IPSec, and other pre-integrated protocols.

Fault-resilient flash file system - Can maintain data integrity even in the event of a power failure.

Korean input method - Complements existing support for Japanese and Chinese input methods.

Tool enhancements in QNX Momentics v6.3 include:

New code coverage tool - As the first code coverage tool to be fully integrated into an embedded IDE, this new offering dramatically shortens testing, optimization, and quality assurance tasks. The tool graphically highlights which source-code paths are being exercised, allowing developers to target areas of highly used code for debugging, performance analysis, and "fast path" optimization.

Enhanced system builder - Designed to accelerate the process of creating boot images and custom flash file-system images, the system builder now includes a BSP import wizard to automate board bring-up.

Enhanced system profiler - A visualization tool that helps developers troubleshoot and optimize complex system behavior, the system profiler introduces new, extensible filters, making it easier than ever to pinpoint performance-degrading hotspots.

Support for Linux development hosts - Developers can now develop their QNX Neutrino RTOS applications from a choice of four development hosts: Windows, Solaris, QNX Neutrino, and Linux.

GCC 3.3.1 compiler - Delivers improved compliance with C99 C and C/C++ multi-vendor application binary interface (ABI) standards; also offers faster code generation.

More about QNX Momentics

From board bring-up to remote troubleshooting, the QNX Momentics development suite provides time-saving tools for the entire embedded development cycle.
