TAMPA, FL. May 3, 2004 - Tridium, Inc., a leader in software for realtime control applications, and QNX Software Systems, a developer of real-time operating systems, have announced an agreement where Tridium will use the QNX® Neutrino® realtime operating system bundled with IBM's WebSphere Custom Environment. The QNX and IBM bundled offering will be delivered in NiagaraAX, Tridium's next generation of the Niagara Framework. Niagara is a software framework designed to address the challenge of integrated control in environments that contain diverse smart devices. Niagara provides realtime access to machines and equipment, normalizes the data from those devices, and integrates a control engine with alarming, scheduling, data logging services, TCP/IP connectivity, and a web server. The software is used in facilities automation, energy services, industrial automation and diverse M2M applications.
"Integrating a true realtime operating system is essential to provide distributed control capabilities. QNX Neutrino and WebSphere Custom Environment provide a highly reliable and efficient platform for Niagara. This optimized QNX/IBM solution will enable us to streamline continued development and increase the functionality and performance of the Niagara Framework," said Jerry Frank, Tridium founder and CTO.
WebSphere Custom Environment has been specially optimized to take advantage of the many advanced capabilities that the QNX Neutrino RTOS provides. Java applications running on WebSphere Custom Environment have full access to the many advanced services that QNX Neutrino offers, including real-time scheduling, distributed processing, symmetric multiprocessing, and the QNX Photon microGUI® windowing system.
"Our true realtime foundation was key in delivering predictable response times for the Java-centric capabilities of NiagaraAX," said Dan Dodge, president and CEO of QNX Software Systems. "We are extremely proud to help innovative companies such as Tridium deliver extremely reliable and robust solutions to the automation market."
