Today hexaZen announced the release of preview version 0.8 of Zinzala, hexaZen's C++ SDK for QNX. Zinzala is a sophisticated C++ tool for enhancing and optimizing software development on QNX.

Developers interested in using Zinzala SDK are encouraged to read Building Custom Widgets with the Zinzala SDK.

hexaZen also announced the re-release of Icon-o-Matic, version 0.5 for x86. Icon-o-Matic is an icon editor built with the Zinzala SDK. The source code of this application is available.

pisoi2001 (Adrian Mardare) just posted Firefox 1.0 and Thunderbird 0.9 for QNX 6.3. These are available in the Mozilla 1.7 directory of Adrian's page.So why is this important to the QNX community? Firefox, along with Mozilla, are the first truely mainstream browser which has been continually ported to QNX. Opera, though also ported, is not quite as main stream as Firefox. In fact Firefox is the first browser in years to actually be taking market share back from IE.

Harman International Industries Inc., manufacturer of Harman-Kardon and JBL audio lines, will acquire RTOS developer QNX Software Systems Ltd. for US$138 million in cash, pending Harman shareholder approval. QNX, which had been privately held, will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Harman and keep its name, all employees and its offices in Ottawa. "I think this was the right decision for QNX to make at this time," said QNX CEO Dan Dodge, who will remain in that position with the company he founded nearly 25 years ago.
