Problems with tcpdum (3rd Party)

Post by Michael Nunan » Thu Feb 05, 2004 4:19 pm

Hope this is the right group to post to.

I am using tcpdump version 3.6 (trying to!).

# tcpdump --help
tcpdump version 3.6
libpcap version 0.4

The problem that I am having is that the timestamps that tcpdump logs are
not the same as the system clock.

17:41:27.4294966686 src.port > dest.port: udp 106 (ttl 248, id 49339, len
134)
17:41:29.4294966621 src.port > dest.port: udp 106 (ttl 248, id 49340, len
134)
17:41:31.000175 src.port > dest.port: udp 106 (ttl 248, id 49341, len 134)
17:41:33.000028 src.port > dest.port: udp 106 (ttl 248, id 49342, len 134)

# date
Thu Feb 05 15:51:52 utc 2004

The system is receiving udp messages at a regular 1/2 hz rate, so the
seconds part of the timestamp is ok (but offset) and the fractions of a
second are useless.

I have tried to install a more recent version of tcpdump, that apears to be
on the 3rd party CDROM. However the package installer does not show tcpdump
as being part of the repository, even though I can see the files when I
browse the CDROM!

Has someone ported a more recent version of this, and where can I find it.

Is there some reason that I cannot install the application from the
repository?

The system is running QNX 6.2.1a.

Thanks, any help will be very appreciated.

One more correction, the version of qnx that we are running is 6.1.0

# uname -a
QNX dppa 6.1.0 2001/06/25-15:31:48edt x86pc x86
