OTTAWA, Canada, April 19, 2005 - QNX Software Systems today announced that Telematics Update has selected QNX's telematics partner ecosystem as a finalist for the Best Solution Award. The Telematics Update Best Solution Award recognizes the best end-to-end telematics solution, namely one that delivers the most cost-effective benefits, quality, and functionality. The nominated QNX solution has been used by many of the world's leading automakers and Tier 1 suppliers, including Audi, Acura, DaimlerChrysler, Delphi, Ford, General Motors, Harman/Becker, Hyundai, Johnson Controls, JVC, LG Electronics, and Saab.
"To ensure its position as the most reliable and future-ready operating system vendor for the telematics and in-car infotainment markets, QNX has built an unparalleled partner ecosystem that provides automakers and Tier 1 auto suppliers with a complete, ready-to-use toolbox of pre-integrated technologies," said Dan Dodge, CEO, QNX Software Systems. "The QNX telematics ecosystem provides automakers and their suppliers with a modular, end-to-end solution that reduces time to market, lowers integration costs, and enables telematics platforms to accommodate new features and services on demand."
The QNX partner ecosystem includes pre-integrated and tested support for a variety of hardware, middleware, and application layer software. QNX supports a wide range of Java, Bluetooth, IDB 1394, Web browser, text-to-speech, graphics, and voice recognition solutions for navigation, telematics, and infotainment devices.
In addition to its extensive partner network, QNX offers the widest range of innovative products and services for the automotive infotainment industry. QNX is the only RTOS vendor to offer native support for both 3D graphics and multi-layer interfaces, essential technologies for building navigation and infotainment systems. To eliminate the need for expensive communications processors, QNX also provides instant-on or "fast boot" technology. QNX also offers an extensible multimedia framework and a unique power management framework, both of which can significantly reduce the cost of designing in-car devices.
Telematics Update Award winners will be announced at the fifth annual Telematics Detroit Conference and Exhibition May 16-17 2005.
