QNX Software Systems announced that the QNX® Neutrino® realtime operating system (RTOS) will support the new MPC5200 processor with 760 MIPS from Motorola Inc.'s Semiconductor Products Sector. Now, developers in these markets can use the QNX Neutrino RTOS to harness the low power and high performance of the MPC5200 to develop applications such as gateways, industrial controllers, telematics control units, global positioning systems, instrumentation, and data image processing devices.

A preview version of Icon-O-Matic, an icon editor written with the Zinzala SDK, has been released.

Octagon Systems announced a rugged, compact (5 x 7.5 in.) single-board computer (SBC) that combines dual-Ethernet, quad-serial, PCMCIA, and industrial I/O. The PCS-620 is designed for transportation, automation, medical, and other applications requiring high reliability or resistance to harsh environments, the company said. QNX, Linux and Windows CE .NET are supported.

Adrian Mardare just wrote that he created a mozilla 1.4 package for Photon and made it available in the online 3rd Party Repository for QNX Neutrino v6.2.1.

Changes specific to the qnx/photon platform:

• the right click menus ( context menus ) in the Mail&News client work now.
  
• not related to the above: the menus now behave like regular photon menus -they have a big region underneath to collect mouse events etc.
  
• if you don't like the antialiased, small fonts that are used in the menus, messages etc, you can now configure them. They are read now from a configuration file ( /usr/share/mozilla/system_fonts ). See the /usr/share/mozilla/system_fonts.README for the format of the file.
  
• changes to improve the overall rendering speed.
  
• packaging related: it now disables the old versions of mozilla rather than uninstalling them.
  
• packaging related: there is an icon bound into the executable for the task bar.
  

QNX Software Systems announced the availability of a new supplemental release for QNX Momentics v6.2.1 Professional Edition. Embedded developers can now target a broader range of hardware platforms and leverage an array of new features, including an advanced power management framework, a fault-tolerant flash file system, and Big Endian support for ARM-based processors, including network and control-plane processors from Intel.

Cybermetrix recently struck a deal with Concurrent Engineering FL to port its flagship CyFlex product to RedHawk Linux real-time operating system. The new product is targeted for release in the 4th quarter of this calendar year.

Last week marked the first anniversary of the openqnx.com website. We have experienced lots of changes in the past year and are glad that the site is still up and providing services to the QNX community. Delobius reports in the #qnx irc channel that last week kretorik was killed by a drunk driver in Cupertino, California.
